Shilajit Adaptogen Complex — $35.00, 30 capsules, one a day. A one-month supply of four concentrated botanical extracts.
What is in a capsule
- Shilajit Extract 30:1 (Asphaltum, stone): 400 mg
- Ashwagandha Root Extract 30:1 (Withania somnifera): 100 mg
- Sea Moss Extract 20:1 (Chondrus crispus, algae): 100 mg
- Tongkat Ali Root Extract 300:1 (Eurycoma longifolia): 100 mg
- Other: olive oil, Nu-FLOW®, cellulose
Every amount is disclosed — no proprietary blend. For a four-botanical formula that is better transparency than most.
Reading the ratios: 30:1 and 300:1
An extract ratio tells you how much raw plant went into the concentrate. 30:1 means 30 parts raw material were reduced to 1 part extract. So 400 mg of a 30:1 shilajit extract represents roughly 12 g of starting material.
Tongkat ali at 300:1 is a very high ratio — 100 mg represents a large quantity of raw root. A high ratio is not automatically better; it tells you about concentration, not about which compounds were concentrated. But it does mean 100 mg here is not a token amount.
The honest limit: none of these are standardised to a named marker compound. A ratio tells you about concentration; a standardisation tells you how much of the active you are actually getting. These are ratios. That is what the label gives, and we are not going to imply more precision than that.
The sourcing question worth asking about any shilajit
Shilajit is a mineral-rich resin that seeps from rock in mountain ranges. Because of what it is and where it comes from, heavy metal contamination is a recognised concern in the category — unpurified shilajit has been found to contain lead and arsenic.
Reputable shilajit is purified and tested for heavy metals. We are not going to show you a test certificate we do not have in front of us, and the label does not state heavy-metal testing. If that is important to you — and for shilajit specifically it is a fair thing to care about — ask us before you buy and we will find out from the manufacturer rather than guess at an answer here.
That is a less comfortable paragraph than a sales page would normally contain. It is also the one we would want to read.
Three ingredients that need the same cautions as elsewhere in our range
Ashwagandha — thyroid interaction, avoid in pregnancy, documented case reports of liver injury, and possible additive effects with sedatives. The full detail is in our CalmWell Ashwagandha article, and it applies here too. Note that if you take both products you are taking ashwagandha twice — 100 mg of 30:1 extract here plus 1,300 mg of root powder there. Different forms, same herb.
Sea moss — a seaweed, and therefore an iodine source. The amount is not stated. If you have a thyroid condition or take thyroid medication, see the NutraMoss article for why that matters.
Tongkat ali — traditionally used in connection with male physical performance. It is not well studied for long-term use, and anyone with a hormone-sensitive condition or taking related medication should ask a doctor first.
What it claims
Supports natural energy, vitality, normal focus, stamina and physical performance.* Structure/function language, nothing more.
It is not a testosterone booster, not a treatment for fatigue, and not a substitute for sleep. If you are persistently exhausted, that is worth a blood test and a doctor — several ordinary, treatable things cause it, and none of them are fixed by an adaptogen.
How to take it
One capsule daily with 6–8 oz of water, or as directed by a healthcare professional. Do not exceed the recommended dose. Consult a physician if pregnant, nursing, under 18, or if you have a known medical condition.
