MoveWell or TurmericX? One Contains Shellfish and One Does Not

The short answer

These two products overlap more than their names suggest. Both contain turmeric, glucosamine, Boswellia and MSM. If you buy both, you are doubling up.

The clearest way to choose:

  • MoveWell — $29.90. Uses vegetal glucosamine. No shellfish.
  • TurmericX — $25.90. Contains shellfish — crab, lobster and crawfish. Far more turmeric.

Read this first if you have a shellfish allergy

TurmericX contains shellfish. The label states crab, lobster and crawfish, which come from the chondroitin and glucosamine sulfate. Anyone with a shellfish allergy should not take it.

This is easy to miss. Most people do not expect a turmeric supplement to contain shellfish, and nothing in the product name suggests it. It is on the label, and we are repeating it here because it matters more than any marketing point on this page.

MoveWell uses GlucosaGreen® vegetal glucosamine HCl — plant-derived, not shellfish-derived. If allergy is your constraint, that is the one.

What is actually in each

MoveWell — per 2-capsule serving

  • MSM: 300 mg
  • GlucosaGreen® vegetal glucosamine HCl: 200 mg
  • Turmeric powder: 200 mg
  • White willow bark extract: 150 mg
  • Boswellia serrata, 65% boswellic acids: 100 mg
  • Black pepper extract, 95% piperine: 10 mg
  • Hyaluronic acid: 10 mg

TurmericX — per 2-capsule serving

  • Turmeric root powder: 800 mg
  • Turmeric standardised to 95% curcuminoids: 100 mg
  • Glucosamine sulfate 2KCl: 200 mg
  • Ginger root extract: 100 mg
  • Chondroitin sulfate: 50 mg
  • Boswellia extract: 40 mg
  • MSM: 10 mg
  • BioPerine®: 10 mg
  • Plus quercetin, L-methionine and bromelain

The practical differences

Turmeric content. TurmericX carries 900 mg of turmeric in total, including a standardised curcuminoid extract. MoveWell has 200 mg. If turmeric is the thing you actually want, TurmericX is the turmeric product.

MSM. The other way round — MoveWell has 300 mg, TurmericX has 10 mg.

Why black pepper is in both. Piperine, from black pepper, is included because curcumin is poorly absorbed on its own. It is there for a reason rather than as filler.

Capsule type. MoveWell uses a gelatin capsule. TurmericX uses a vegetable capsule. Worth knowing if you avoid gelatin.

Which to pick

  • Shellfish allergy → MoveWell. Not a preference, a requirement.
  • You want turmeric specifically → TurmericX, which has four and a half times as much.
  • You want the broader joint blend → MoveWell, with more MSM, white willow bark and hyaluronic acid.
  • You avoid gelatin → TurmericX.
  • Both? We would not. The overlap is substantial and you would be paying twice for the same ingredients.

What neither of these does

Neither product treats arthritis, joint pain or any other condition, and neither label claims to. They are labelled for general joint-health support.*

If you have joint pain that is persistent, worsening, or stopping you doing things, that is a medical conversation. Arthritis has real treatments and a supplement is not one of them.

An honest note on evidence

Research on turmeric, glucosamine, MSM and Boswellia is research about those ingredients — and it is genuinely mixed, particularly for glucosamine. It is not evidence about these formulas. No trials have been run on either product.

Compare them
