Aloe & Cool Cucumber Soap — $14.99, 4 oz. Fresh, light, and a good bar to be honest about, because aloe is one of the most over-promised ingredients in personal care.
What is in it
Saponified Oils (Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Organic Palm Oil**, Organic Coconut Oil*, Organic Shea Butter*), Fragrance, Chromium Oxide, Aloe Vera.
**Fair Trade Sustainable · *Fair Trade
Chromium oxide is a green colourant — a standard, long-established cosmetic pigment. It is what makes the bar green. That is its entire job.
The honest part: aloe in a bar of soap
Aloe vera has a strong reputation, most of which comes from leave-on products — gels you put on sunburn and leave there.
This is a rinse-off product. It is on your skin for perhaps thirty seconds and then it goes down the drain. Whatever aloe contributes here is modest by definition, and anyone telling you a bar of soap delivers the benefits of an aloe gel is selling you something.
What we will say: aloe is on the ingredient list, it is a traditional addition to a cleansing bar, and some people prefer how an aloe-containing bar feels.
What we will not say: that it soothes, heals, calms, repairs, treats sunburn, or does anything to a skin condition. It does not, and the label does not support any of it.
If you want aloe to actually do something, buy an aloe gel and leave it on. That is not a product we sell, and telling you so costs us nothing.
Cucumber: it is the scent
Same deal, said quickly. The label lists Fragrance and describes a "cool cucumber-inspired" profile. There is no cucumber extract on the ingredient list. The bar smells fresh and green; it does not contain cucumber.
So why buy it?
Because it is a well-made cold-process bar with a clean, light scent, and because fresh-and-green is a genuinely nice thing for a morning shower to smell like. That is a perfectly good reason to buy soap. It does not need a health claim stapled to it.
Who it suits
- Anyone who wants something light and fresh rather than sweet, woody or herbal
- Warm weather and morning showers
- Anyone who finds Breathe Clear too sharp but still wants "fresh"
Who should skip it
- Anyone with a fragrance sensitivity — the scent is an undisclosed blend, so it cannot be checked. The Sandalwood spotlight explains what "Fragrance" does and does not tell you.
- Anyone avoiding shea butter — Lemongrass & Sage is the only bar here without it
- Anyone who prefers no added colourants. This one contains chromium oxide; Calming Lavender has no colourant at all.
- Anyone with a known aloe sensitivity, which is uncommon but does exist
Care
Add warm water and work the bar into a thick lather. Cleanse wet skin, rinse thoroughly, and keep the bar dry between uses on a draining dish. For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes; if that happens, rinse thoroughly with clean water. Discontinue use if irritation occurs.
