Colostrum Powder: 4.6× the IgG of the Capsules — and Still a Dairy Product

Colostrum Powder — $39.95, 69 g. The powder version of ColoWell Colostrum, and the dose difference is substantial.

It is a dairy product

Same point, stated as plainly as on the capsule article: colostrum is the first milk produced after a cow gives birth. This is bovine milk.

  • Milk allergy: do not take this.
  • Lactose intolerant: colostrum contains lactose. Start with a part-scoop and see how you do.
  • Vegan: this is not a vegan product. It carries a vegetarian badge, which is accurate — milk is vegetarian — but it is emphatically not vegan, and people often read those two badges as interchangeable.

The dose difference, which is the real story

ColoWell Capsules Colostrum Powder
Price $35.00 $39.95
Colostrum per serving 500 mg 2,300 mg
IgG per serving ~125 mg 575 mg
IgG standardisation 25% 25%
Format 60 capsules Powder, scoop

The powder delivers 4.6 times the colostrum and 4.6 times the IgG per serving, for $4.95 more. If colostrum is what you actually want, the powder is the considerably better value — and this is the sort of comparison that is almost impossible to make from two product pages side by side, which is why we are doing it here.

The powder is also a shorter ingredient list: bovine colostrum and nothing else. The capsules add rice flour, MCT oil, silicon dioxide, L-leucine and a cellulose shell.

What "25% IgG" means

IgG is immunoglobulin G, an antibody, and the component of colostrum most of the interest concerns. 25% standardisation means a quarter of the colostrum powder by weight is IgG — which is how 2,300 mg of colostrum yields 575 mg of IgG. Our label prints both numbers, which not every colostrum product does.

Where we stop

Same honest limits as on the capsules:

  • Antibodies are proteins, and digestion breaks proteins down. How much intact IgG survives the stomach and does something downstream is genuinely debated, not settled.
  • It does not prevent, treat or shorten illness. Not colds, not flu, not anything. It is not an immune booster and we will not call it one.
  • "Growth factors" is not a muscle-building claim. It refers to compounds naturally present in colostrum.
  • It does not treat leaky gut, IBS or any digestive condition.

The label supports normal immune system function and digestive wellness.* That is the level, and that is where we stay.

How to take it

One scoop in 6–8 oz of cold water or a beverage of your choice. Consume within 10 minutes of mixing — the same instruction as on our Greens Superfood, and worth following; mixed protein powders left standing do not improve.

It mixes reasonably into a protein shake if you would rather not drink it alone — though note that if you use a whey protein, you are already taking a milk-derived product, so the dairy consideration is the same for both.

For adults only. Do not exceed the recommended dose.

Who should not take it

  • Anyone with a milk or dairy allergy
  • Vegans
  • Anyone pregnant, nursing, under 18, or with a known medical condition, without asking a doctor
  • Anyone immunocompromised — worth a specific conversation with your own clinician
