Brain & Focus Formula: Contains Fish and Soy, Contains Iron, Contains Huperzine A

Brain & Focus Formula — $39.90, 60 capsules, two a day. The most ingredient-dense product we sell, and the one with the most to disclose up front.

1. It contains fish (tuna) and soy

Stated on the label: Contains: Soy & Fish (Tuna Fish).

The fish comes from the DHA in the proprietary blend. Nothing in the name "Brain & Focus Formula" suggests a tuna allergen, and that is exactly why it leads this article. If you have a fish or soy allergy, do not take this.

2. It contains iron — keep it away from children

The formula includes iron as ferrous fumarate, and carries the mandatory warning:

Accidental overdose of iron-containing products is a leading cause of fatal poisoning in children under 6. Call a doctor or poison control center immediately in case of accidental overdose.

If there is a young child in the house, this bottle does not live on a counter or a nightstand. The same applies to GlowWell Essentials, which also contains iron. If you take both, you are taking iron twice — worth totalling, because iron is one of the nutrients where more is genuinely not better.

3. It contains Huperzine A, and that deserves a paragraph

Inside the 617 mg proprietary blend is Huperzine A, a compound derived from a club moss.

Unlike most botanical ingredients, Huperzine A has a specific, well-described mechanism: it inhibits acetylcholinesterase, an enzyme that breaks down the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. That is the same mechanism class as certain prescription medications.

What that means practically:

  • Tell your doctor you are taking it if you take any medication affecting the nervous system — particularly cholinesterase inhibitors, anticholinergics, or medication for Alzheimer's, glaucoma, asthma or heart rhythm.
  • It is not an ingredient most people should take indefinitely without supervision, and continuous long-term use is not well characterised.
  • The amount is not disclosed, because it sits inside a proprietary blend. For an ingredient with a pharmacological mechanism, that is the detail we would most want to see printed, and it is not.

The blend also contains DMAE and GABA, neither of which has a stated amount either.

What else is in it

Vitamins and minerals, per 2 capsules: Vitamin A 122 mcg RAE · Vitamin C 125 mg · Vitamin D 3 mcg · Vitamin E 14 mg · B1 3 mg · B2 1.7 mg · B3 12.5 mg NE · B6 12 mg · Folate 680 mcg DFE (400 mcg folic acid) · Biotin 3 mcg · B5 12 mg · Calcium · Iron · Magnesium 50 mg · Zinc 10 mg · Selenium 50 mcg · Copper 0.052 mg · Manganese 0.4 mg · Chromium 12 mcg · Molybdenum 10 mcg · Potassium 94 mg · Choline.

Proprietary blend, 617 mg: DMAE bitartrate, L-glutamine HCl, glutamic acid, green tea extract, bacopa extract, inositol, bilberry fruit extract, GABA, grape seed extract, grapefruit seed extract, olive leaf, cinnamon bark extract, licorice root extract, boron, DHA 14%, vanadyl, phosphatidylserine, Huperzine A.

Eighteen ingredients inside 617 mg, with no individual amounts. We are not going to estimate any of them.

Two more interactions worth raising

  • Grapefruit seed extract — grapefruit interacts with a long list of prescription medicines. Check with a pharmacist.
  • Licorice root extract — licorice can raise blood pressure and lower potassium with regular use. If you have high blood pressure or take a diuretic, mention it.
  • Green tea extract — contains caffeine, amount unstated, so this is not a caffeine-free product.

What it claims, and what it absolutely does not

The label supports healthy cognitive function and nervous system wellness, and maintaining mental clarity, concentration and memory.* Structure/function language.

It does not treat, prevent or slow dementia, Alzheimer's disease, cognitive decline, ADHD or any neurological condition. Several ingredients here appear in research connected to those conditions, and that association is exactly why we are stating the limit plainly rather than letting it sit implied.

If you or someone you care for is experiencing genuine memory changes, that is a medical assessment, urgently and properly — not a supplement purchase.

How to take it

Two capsules once daily, 20–30 minutes before a meal with 8 oz of water, or as directed by your healthcare professional. Do not exceed the recommended dose.

Consult a physician before use if pregnant, nursing, under 18, or if you have a known medical condition. Given the Huperzine A, the iron and the allergens, this is one where "consult a physician" is a genuine recommendation rather than a formality.
