PlantFuel Protein: What Is Actually In It

The short answer

PlantFuel Protein is a plant protein built on fava bean with nutritional yeast. It comes in Chocolate and Vanilla at $44.90, with 21 g of protein per serving in Chocolate and 20 g in Vanilla.

If you bought our older plant protein, this is not the same product. The earlier formula used pea protein. PlantFuel does not. If you chose it specifically for pea protein, read the label before reordering — we would rather tell you plainly than let you find out after it arrives.

Why fava bean instead of pea

Fava bean is a legume protein with a broad amino acid profile and a noticeably milder taste. Pea protein is perfectly good nutritionally, but a lot of people find it chalky or earthy, and that is the most common reason a tub gets abandoned half-full.

Taste matters more than it sounds. A protein you do not drink does nothing.

What the nutritional yeast is doing

Nutritional yeast adds a savoury depth that rounds out the flavour and contributes B vitamins. It is a food ingredient, not an additive — the same thing people sprinkle on popcorn and pasta.

What is on the label

  • Chocolate: 21 g protein per serving
  • Vanilla: 20 g protein per serving
  • Base: fava bean protein with nutritional yeast
  • Price: $44.90

The complete ingredient list and nutrition panel are on each product page. If you have a legume allergy, read it before ordering.

How it compares to whey

Honestly rather than promotionally:

  • Whey isolate digests quickly and is higher in leucine, the amino acid most closely associated with muscle protein synthesis. If maximising that is your single priority, whey still leads.
  • Plant protein suits anyone avoiding dairy, anyone who finds whey hard on their stomach, and anyone who prefers a plant-based diet. The gap for everyday use is much smaller than supplement marketing suggests.

For most people the deciding factor is not the gram-for-gram comparison. It is which one they will actually drink every day.

Who it suits

  • Plant-based or dairy-free diets
  • Anyone who has tried pea protein and disliked the taste
  • Anyone who wants a plant option alongside whey rather than instead of it

Who it does not

If you want the highest leucine per scoop and dairy is not a problem, choose whey. We sell both and have no reason to push you to the wrong one.

An honest note on evidence

Research on protein intake is research about protein, not about this product. No clinical trials have been run on the PlantFuel formula, and we will not imply otherwise.
