Max Detox: It Contains Tree Nuts and a Stimulant Laxative Herb. Read This First.

Max Detox — $29.90, 60 capsules. This is the product in our range with the most to say about it before you buy, so we are putting all of it at the top.

1. It contains tree nuts

The label states: Contains: Tree Nuts (Black Walnut Hull).

If you have a tree nut allergy, this product is not for you, full stop. There is no version of this where it is worth the risk. The name gives you no hint of it, which is exactly why this is the first line of this article.

2. It behaves like a laxative, and the label does not say so plainly

Three ingredients in this blend are what make it work the way it does:

  • Psyllium powder — a bulk-forming fibre. It absorbs water and swells.
  • Aloe ferox powder, 18% aloin — aloe latex. Aloin is the compound in aloe latex associated with a stimulant laxative effect, and it is standardised here, meaning the amount is deliberate rather than incidental.
  • Slippery elm bark — a traditional mucilage.

Put plainly: expect this product to affect your bowels. People are routinely surprised by "detox" supplements for exactly this reason, and being surprised by a laxative is a bad experience. Now you know.

What that means practically

  • Drink plenty of water. Psyllium without enough fluid is uncomfortable at best. Bulk fibre needs water to work as intended — this is not optional advice.
  • Do not use it long-term without medical advice. Stimulant laxative ingredients are not intended for extended continuous use, and regulators have taken a cautious view of aloe latex in laxative products. A doctor is the right person to ask about duration.
  • Do not exceed two capsules per day. The label says this explicitly and repeats it. More is not faster or better.
  • Talk to a doctor first if you take any medication — a laxative effect can change how other medicines are absorbed — or if you have any bowel condition, are pregnant or nursing, or are under 18.

3. On the word "detox"

Your liver and kidneys do the detoxification. They do it continuously, and they do not need a capsule to start.

What this product actually is: a fibre and herbal blend that has an effect on digestion and bowel regularity. That is a real, legitimate thing for a supplement to do, and it is what the ingredients support. It does not purge toxins, cleanse your blood, reset your system, or produce weight loss — and the label does not claim any of it. Neither will we.

The full blend

Proprietary Blend: Psyllium Powder, Acai Berry Extract, Inulin, Slippery Elm Bark, Aloe Ferox Powder (Aloin 18%), Chlorella, Black Walnut Hulls Powder, Ginger Root, Hyssop Leaf, Papaya Fruit Powder, Lycopene 5%. Other ingredients: Hypromellose (vegetable capsule), Magnesium Stearate.

It is a proprietary blend, which means the label gives no individual amounts. You cannot tell how much psyllium or how much aloe ferox is in a capsule, and neither can we — so we are not going to estimate it for you.

How to take it

Two capsules once a day. The label suggests one during the day and one in the evening. Do not exceed two capsules per day. Keep out of reach of children, do not use if the safety seal is damaged, store cool and dry.

Who should not take this at all

  • Anyone with a tree nut allergy
  • Anyone pregnant or nursing
  • Anyone under 18
  • Anyone with a known medical condition — particularly bowel conditions — without talking to their doctor first
  • Anyone taking prescription medication, without checking about absorption

If you want gut support without the laxative effect

These are the gentler options in the range, and none of them contain tree nuts or aloe latex:
